Lieutenant Billy Abrams was a graduate of Breaux Bridge High School and pursued higher education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). Afterward, he made the move to Houston, Texas, where he served as a dedicated Police Officer with the Houston Police Department. Concurrently, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey by founding a security and IT company, which became a significant part of his life during his two decades in Houston.
However, the call of home beckoned when he returned to Louisiana for the love of his life, his wife, Mary Abrams. There, he embarked on a new chapter as a Police Officer at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where his commitment to the university community left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. Throughout his 23-year tenure, Lt. Billy Abrams assumed multiple roles, including that of a Public Relations Officer, CVSA Coordinator, Evidence Coordinator, presenter at Student Orientations, and the superintendent of the Police Department's computer systems.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Lt. Billy Abrams was a remarkable Husband, Father, and Brother. He will forever be remembered for his profound love for his family, particularly his most cherished daughter, Megan, as well as his passion for technology.
In this time of reflection, his family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at St. Joseph Hospice of Acadiana, with a special acknowledgment for Nurse Alexandra. Lt. Billy Abrams' legacy lives on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
Pallbearers will be Darnell Lazare, Braylon Lazare, Cameron Lazare, Dalton Decuir, Don Jayamaha, Jr., and David Abrams.
The family requests that visitation be held at Walters Funeral Home on Friday morning between 7:00 - 10:00 am. A rosary will be led by Harold and Sandra Lazare at 8:00 am.
