Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church (1130 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA) for Dorothy Dole Henton, 89, of Carencro died on Monday, July 7, 2014. Reverend Zach Sasser, pastor of First Presbyterian will conduct the funeral services. Interment will follow the services in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Known as "Dot", Dorothy was born September 14, 1924 in Mattoon, IL to Horace Joseph and Pearl Alice (Powers) Dole. She attended MacMurray College for Women in Jacksonville, IL. Dot and her childhood sweetheart John "Jack" Henton spent their school years together through high school graduation in 1942 and married January 27, 1946 in Mattoon, IL while Jack was home on leave during World War II.
During the course of her husband's career she lived in Wyoming, Colorado, Illinois, Mississippi and Louisiana for a grand total of 16 moves. A classic American homemaker who relished in the role, Dot was able to create a warm, secure home almost anywhere. Day or night she would gladly welcomes loved ones to her home, where full course meals would materialize along with sage advice and motherly wisdom. Her stories about growing up on a farm during the Great Depression and recording her experiences led her to a labor of love in creating albums of family history for all of her children and grandchildren.
Dot is survived by three children, Dorinda Henton Florea (husband, Ron) of Carencro, LA, Jeffry Marc Henton of Carencro, LA, and Suzanne Henton Ehrbar (husband, Greg) of Oakland, FL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Florea Connaughton (husband, Jay) of Mandeville, LA, Sarah Florea Deroche (husband, Kyle) of Lafayette, LA, Christopher Henton (wife, Shannon) of Abita Springs, LA, BJ Henton (wife, Jenifer) of Lacombe, LA, Theresa Henton Prejean (husband, Vincent) of Madison, MS, and Katie and Colin Ehrbar of Oakland, FL; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Horace and Pearl Dole; and her only sibling, Steve Dole.
Dot was not only the heart of her home, but the heart of her family as well. With a heart of gold and a will of iron, she remained active and engaged in a busy life right up until her final moments.She will be sadly and deeply missed.
Pallbearers will be Colin Ehrbar, Vincent Prejean, Jay Connaughton, Chris Henton, BJ Henton, and Kyle Deroche.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Walters Funeral Home from 3:00-7:00 pm, and resume Monday morning at 8:00 am until time of services.
