A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 10:00 am in St. Genevieve Catholic Church for Dorothy "Dot" Latiolais, 86, who passed away July 30, 2017 at her residence in Lafayette. Monsignor Keith DeRouen, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Opelousas will be the celebrant of the funeral mass and conduct the funeral services. Elaine Bienvenu and Shaye Hebert will be the lectors; Lauren Bienvenu, Payton Bienvenu, and Julie Constantine will be the gift bearers. Interment will follow the funeral mass in Calvary Cemetery.
Dot is survived by two daughters, Kathy Thomas (George) of Lafayette and Karla Faul (Easton) of Spring, Tex.; three grandchildren, Marc Constantine (Julie), Lauren Bienvenu (Jared) and Shaney Faulk (Robby); five great-grandchildren, Andre Landry, Andrew Constantine, Payton Bienvenu, Matthew Constantine, and Aiden Faulk; and her special friend and caregiver, Judy Dugas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew "Drew" Latiolais; her parents, the former Laurence Sonnier and Odon Gilbert; one brother, Francis Gilbert; and two sisters, Carmelite "Toto" Provost and Florence "Pip" Hutchinson.
Dot was a native and resident of Lafayette for all her life. She was an active member of St. Genevieve Church parish, serving on the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.
Pallbearers will be Easton Faul, George Thomas, Marc Constantine, Jared Bienvenu, Andre Landry, Andrew Constantine, Michael Clark, and Jason Hutchinson. Honorary pallbearers include Matthew Constantine, Aiden Faulk, and the Lafayette High Class of 1947.
The family extends its special thanks are given to her friend Judy Dugas, Dr. Brian Granger and staff, Dr. Vernon Valentino and staff, Stat Home Health, Evangeline Home Health, St. Martin Rehab and staff, Elaine and Ray Bienvenu, and Sister Laura Melancon for all the care and support given to her throughout her lifetime.
Visitation hours will be observed Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm, and a rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm at Walters Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Genevieve Elementary School or to Teurlings Catholic High School..
