A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm in St. Genevieve Church for Elaine M. Hebert, who passed away May 12, 2017. She was 90 years old. Reverend Brian Taylor will be the Celebrant of the funeral mass. Gladys East will be the lector; Gloria Bourque and Makayla Simineaux will be giftbearers. Jodi Bollich will perform "Amazing Grace", "My Shepherd Is The Lord", "Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus", and "Peace In The Valley". Interment will follow the services in Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include her three daughters, Theresa H. Vincent of Lafayette, Patricia H. (Kenneth) Marks of Lafayette and Phyllis H. Bourque of Breaux Bridge; one sister, Mildred Simoneaux of Catahoula; one brother, Leed Melancon of Parks; and four grandchildren, Nicky Bourque, Jr., Jonathan Vincent, Gloria Bourque, and Matthew Bourque.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Hebert; parents, Amalie and Joseph Melancon; and three brothers, Dallas, Stafford, and Milton Melancon.
Elaine was a native of Catahoula and resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She worked at Bell South as a telephone operator for 12 years.
Pallbearers will be Nicky Bourque Jr., Jonathan Vincent, Matthew Bourque, Kenneth Marks, Allen Joe Courville, Corey Simoneaux.
Visiting hours will be held at Walters Funeral Home on Friday from 8:00 am - 1:30 pm, with a rosary led by Sister Doris Roy at 10:00 am.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of Amelia Manor and Louisa Prados and her daughters for their compassionate care of Elaine.
