Eugenie "Jean" Guidry

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Eugenie "Jean" Guidry, 94, who passed away February 26, 2023. Father Aaron Melancon, pastor of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church in Duson, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Adam Guidry and Kelli Peschier; gift bearers will be Jamie Thompson and Jennifer Trahan. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will perform "Ave Maria", "Shepherd Me, O God", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "One Bread, One Body", and "How Great Thou Art". Interment will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. 

Survivors include her two daughters, Linda Peschier of Lafayette, and Debra Venable and her husband Donald of Cankton; two sons, Jimmy Guidry of Lafayette, and Michael Guidry and his wife Catherine of Erwinville; one sister, Alice Benoit of Youngsville; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Guidry; two sons, John Gilbert Guidry and Joseph Carlton Guidry; son-in-law, Michael Peschier Jr.; and six siblings, Georgette Bourque, Jean Malagarie, Lawless Smith, Lastie Smith, Paul Smith, and Carmen Picard.

Jean or "Meyon" as she was lovingly referred to by family, was a native of Milton and lived in the Lafayette/Carencro area for 30 years. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bouree and Cadillac, with her friends at Beau Sejour. She enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, and going to the casino. She was a great cook, and will be remembered for her fried chicken with cream gravy and cabbage rolls. 

Pallbearers will be Adam  Guidry, Donnie Venable, Jason Peschier, Joseph  Peschier, Christopher Guidry, Michael-John Guidry, Shawn Thompson and Aaron Mire. Honorary pallbearers include Donald Venable, Michael Anthony Guidry, and Jimmy Guidry.

The family requests that visitation be held on Wednesday, March 1 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm . A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am on Wednesday.
