Evelyn Goodrich

Evelyn Marie Buttikofer Goodrich, known to family as “Chu Chu,” passed away in her home in Duson surrounded by loved ones on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the age of 90.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. Basil Cemetery.  Deacon Cody Miller will officiate the services.

Visitation hours will be observed at Walters Funeral Home on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and will resume on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  A rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.

A native of Sulphur, LA, Evelyn lived in Duson/ Lafayette for most of her life.  She was married to Jack Goodrich for 69 years.  She loved Jack with all of her heart, and was one-hundred percent dedicated to him until he passed away in 2020.  Together, they owned Frenchman’s Wilderness Campground in Butte La Rose for several years. 

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking for her family (especially her famous fried chicken), sewing, watching Wheel of Fortune, working in her yard, and spending time with her family and friends.

Evelyn is survived by one son, Rodney (Baretta) Goodrich;  two daughters, Pam (Al) Breaux, and Cindy (Dan) Theriot;  nine grandchildren, Rhonda, Melisha, Ashley, Jaycee, Troy, Tiffanie, Bryan, Tracie, and Madison;  20 great-grandchildren;  and one brother, Jerry Buttikofer.  She will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.  Her little dog “Buddy” will miss her deeply.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eddie Buttikofer and Edna Mae Martin Buttikofer;  one sister, Barbara;  two brothers, Freddie Ray and Ed;  and one grandson, Trey Goodrich.

Pallbearers will be her brother, Jerry Buttikofer;  son-in-laws Dan Theriot and Al Breaux;  grandsons Troy Breaux and Bryan Theriot, and grandson-in-law Brent Seaux.  Honorary pallbearer will be Rodney Goodrich.
