Gregory Mark Pickett, 68, of Lafayette, LA, passed away September 15, 2023. He was born April 30, 1955, in Lafayette, LA to Virginia Bowman Pickett and George William Pickett. Gregory attended Acadiana High ‘73, Oregon State University, and USL/ULL in Lafayette.
He started out working in the oilfield and then many years in carpentry. He was the carpentry teacher at WD Smith Career Center for 30 years. He and his class would build a portable classroom building each year to be used by the school system.
Gregory was a caring person involved in his community in many activities.  He served four years on the Lafayette Parish Planning and Zoning Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn G. Pickett , sons, Saul William Pickett and Kevin Paul Pickett, of Lafayette, LA ; brother, Kendall Lee Pickett and wife, Kay Pickett of Shoreacres, TX. Also, his niece and her husband, Kelley and Nathan Dockray, and their daughters, Patty Nowell, Madelyn and Avery Dockray; and nephew, Philip Pickett in Texas.
Gregory is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Bowman Pickett and George William Pickett; and, nephew, Bryan C. Pickett.
A memorial service and gathering of family and friends will be at 4:00 pm Monday, September 18,  2023 at Temple Shalom, 603 Lee Avenue, in Lafayette, LA. Memorial contributions may be made to any charitable organization.
