Helen "Joyce" Melancon

Joyce was very active in the community, serving as a Past President of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, a member of the Home League of the Salvation Army (with an outstanding 27 year perfect attendance record), a charter member of the VFW Post 9822 Auxiliary, and a member of St. Leo the Great Altar Society. In her free time, she enjoyed camping, playing cards (especially bourre'), cats, and dancing. She also enjoyed going to nursing homes and giving Christmas gifts from the Salvation Army.

Survivors include her four children; Eva Allison, and husband Tony of San Diego, CA; Tammy Deshotel, and husband John of Lafayette; Michael Melancon of Lafayette; and Terry Melancon and wife Tracey of Carencro; one brother, E.J. Barras, and wife Jean of Duson; and four grandchildren; Elizabeth Allison, Erik Allison, Tyler Melancon, and Taylor Melancon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William "Bill" Melancon; her parents, Rena Romero and Stephen Barras; one daughter, Mary Melancon; and one brother, Clayton Barras.
