Irving was born on December 15, 1959 to the late Mary Gussie Francis and Travis John St. Julien. He graduated from Northside Senior High in 1978, and soon thereafter enlisted in the United States Army. In the military Irving began boxing, and it was then he found his passion. He retired as a three-time champion in boxing, and loved teaching the sport to young men as well. He had some up and downs he faced during his life journey with a few failures. However, he always came back as a true fighter that he is.
Irving had a kind and gentle soul. He was a soft-spoken person, and was known as the “Quiet Uncle” by his nieces and nephews. He was adventurous, traveling the world without fear. He was not quite a dancer, but with his spider dance he always made his family smile. His memories will always have a special place in our hearts & live on forever. Irving, you have fought a good fight and lived your life to what GOD has written for you in the book of life. This may seem to others this was your last fight; although forever you will remain “Sweet Irving Mitchell” the family’s champion. Most of all, your GOD’s Greatest Champ!
