A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Jeanelle Camel, age 80, who died December 8, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living.  The Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will celebrate the Mass and conduct graveside services at Calvary Cemetery.  Lectors will be Chryl Clothier and Paul Cheramie.  Gift bearers will be Ashley Cheramie and Leila Bellow.  Organist and Soloist will be Jodi Bollich. She is survived by three daughters, Madeline Whitted and her husband, Fred of Houston, Texas; Jessica Patin and her husband Ryan, of Broussard and Angie Ackal and her husband Bill of Lafayette; one son, Terrel Camel and his wife, Dina, of Lafayette; one sister, Olga Thomas of Lafayette; nine grandchildren Erika Whitted, Jenny Dugas, Charlie Whitted, Molly Whitted, Matthew Camel, Ashley Cheramie, Leila Bellow, Alia Patin and Ryli Patin and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay Begnaud and the former Maude Prejean of Lafayette; her husband, Paul Camel; one son, Terry Camel and two brothers, Herman Begnaud and Donald Begnaud.
Mrs. Camel was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette.  She was the owner and operator of Jeanelle’s Art Studio for 41 years.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 11, 2017 from 11:30 am until time of the Mass at 2 p.m.
A rosary will be led by Sr. Doris Roy Monday at noon in the funeral home.
Special appreciation goes to Paul Cheramie, the staff at Hospice Compassus and Brookdale Senior Living.
