Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Lauris Touchet, 96, who passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his residence.  Father David Hebert, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services.  Lectors will be Bree Guidry and Madison Guidry.  Phyllis Simar and Angela Comeaux will provide musical selections for the services. Interment will follow the services in Calvary Cemetery.


Visitation hours will be observed at Walters Funeral Home on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 9:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.  A rosary will be led by Sister Doris Roy at 11:00 am.


Lauris is survived by his family, who were all his “pride and joy.”   Two daughters, Jennifer Thibodeaux and her companion Jim Altman of Lafayette, and Faye Touchet of Lafayette;  one son, Michael Touchet and his wife Kat of Breaux Bridge;  one sister, Mabel Vallot of Youngsville;  three grandchildren, Shayna Guidry and her husband Francis of Breaux Bridge, Jeremy Thibodeaux and his wife Coco of Lafayette, and Skipper Touchet of Lafayette;  and five great-grandchildren, Bree Kathryn Guidry, Madison Frances Guidry, Collin Michael Thibodeaux, Lucas James Guidry, and Jace Joseph Guidry.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Eva Delle Touchet;  his parents, Minus and Anna Touchet;  five sisters, Florence Touchet, Dorothy Decou, Gladys Duhon, Jessie Hill, and Helen Hanes;  three brothers, George Lee Touchet, Minus Touchet, Jr., and Lennis Touchet;  and one infant brother.


Lauris was born January 9, 1928 in Milton, LA.   He is a World War II Veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in January of 1946, and serving three months of basic training in San Diego.  He was then drafted to the USS New Jersey in the aviation division for approximately seven months, after which he was drafted to the transport troop to Guam.   Upon being drafted to the USS Bremerton, he was assigned to the captain’s gig.  In December of 1947 he received an honorable discharge.  

Lauris was employed by Orkin Pest Control, where he retired after working for over 30 years.   He was a Parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, and was a volunteer at the VA Clinic, a lifetime member of VFW Post 9822, a member of the American Legion 241, and served on the Committee for Water District #3.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Heart of Hospice, the VA Home Based Primary Care, Home Instead In-Home Care, and Elara Caring. 


Serving as pallbearers are Francis Guidry, Jace Guidry, Lucas Guidry, Collin Thibodeaux, Jeremy Thibodeaux, Michael Touchet, and Skipper Touchet.  Honorary pallbearer is Jim Altman.
