Leota Louise Domingue Castille passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving son, Jeffery, and other family members.
Leota was born November 30, 1949 in Sunset, Louisiana. In 1968, she graduated high school from the Academy of Immaculate Conception, and then she attended T.H. Harris in Opelousas, achieving a nursing degree in 1971.
Leota had a successful nursing career working for the Lafayette Parish School Board for over twenty-five years as a special education nurse. Prior to her work for the School Board, Leota worked at various hospitals in the New Orleans and Lafayette areas, including working as an emergency room nurse at Leonard J. Chabert hospital in Houma.
During her retirement, Leota loved to travel, taking dozens of cruises and traveling the world. She volunteered with both Miles Perret Cancer Services and Hospice of Acadiana. Leota also enjoyed working as a commissioner in charge during elections and worked at various grocery stores meeting people while handing out samples of wine. She was also a member of Ladies Altar Society at St. Anne’s in Youngsville, LA and made thousands of handmade rosaries. Leota was also a member of the Sunset Garden Club and various pokeno and bouree/card playing groups. She was a very competitive and spirited dominos player, and she knew all the best deals in town. On any given week, you could ask her where the best deals were, and she knew where to direct you.
Leota is survived by her son, Jeffery Thomas Castille, and her siblings, Theo Domingue, Linda Freyou, Louis Domingue, Anne Bergeron, Raymond Domingue, Nancy Ellis, Elizabeth Block, and Lori Guillory.
Leota was incredibly proud of Jeffery and all of his personal and professional accomplishments. They shared a very close relationship and enjoyed new adventures, traveling often, even parasailing together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lois Domingue of Sunset, LA. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Frank James Domingue, and her sisters, Irene Della Thompson and Hilda Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Borromeo’s Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, 174 Church Street, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 1:30 pm. Fr. Mark Kramer, Deacon Christopher Domingue, and Deacon Cody Miller will officiate.
