Lona B. Sonnier

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025  at 2:00 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Lona B. Sonnier, 95, who passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025.  The Rev. J. Aaron Melancon, Pastor at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, will officiate the ceremony. Interment will be in St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson immediately following the service.

Visitation hours will be observed at Walters Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m.  A rosary will be prayed at the funeral home on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m.

Lona is survived by one daughter, Janice Landry and her husband Carl of Duson; three sons, Charles Sonnier and his wife Elizabeth of Duson, Stephen Sonnier and his wife Peggy of Broussard, and Robert Sonnier of Duson; one brother, Roland Broussard; 11 grandchildren, Nicole Street, Jamie Landry, Kevin Landry, Ashley Rodman, Jennifer Hines, Jeremy Sonnier, Rachel Dupre, Kirk Sonnier, Kristen Tolar, Kelly Viator, and Daphne Gaspard; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Russel Sonnier; one son, Michael Sonnier; her parents, Edward and Annie Mae Broussard; one grandson, Philip Sonnier; two brothers, Edward Broussard, Jr., and J.C. Broussard; and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Broussard and Nettie Broussard.

A resident of Duson, Lona was a Eucharistic minister at St. Theresa Catholic Church.

Pallbearers are Jamie Landry, Kevin Landry, Charles Sonnier, Jeremy Sonnier, Kirk Sonnier, Robert Sonnier, and Stephen Sonnier. Honorary pallbearer is Carl Landry.
