Mary Kathryn Short

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Mary Kathryn Short, 62, who passed away January 27, 2025. Deacon Art Bakeler will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be her two children, Amber Michelle Short-Torres and Andre George Beverly, Sr. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will perform, "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", and "Because He Lives". 

Survivors include her children, Amber Michelle (Anthony) Short-Torres of Pineville and Andre George (Mary) Beverly, Sr. of Attala, AL; mother, Carolyn Robicheaux Short of Lafayette; two sisters, Susanne (Warren) Guidry of Rayne and Lisa (Binh) Short of Lafayette; two brothers, Joseph W. Short and James (Lori) Short, both of Lafayette; and eight grandchildren, Kamron Michael Short, Kristian Roderick Short, Amelia Isabella Beverly, Andre George Beverly Jr., Merci Elizabeth Beverly, Anthony Jay Torres II, Marcus Diego Torres, and Jessarah Grace Torres; seven nephews, Brandon Short, Jason (Desire) Boudreaux, Tony (Danielle) Short, Tan (Melina) Nguyen, Brent (Heather) Short, Trey (Christine) Short, and William (Amaya) Short; four nieces, Nicole Guidry, April Short, Jennifer (Hoang) Nguyen, and Tanya Short;  her "bonus daughter", Ashley (Manley) Common, and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Short Jr.; the father of her children, Andre Michael Beverly; and her longtime companion, Leroy Kenneth Batiste.

Mary was a native of Morgan City and resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She had many nicknames: Kathy, Katmama, Mary K., but most significantly, she was known as Mom and Mawmaw. She loved music, dancing, food, and just having a wonderful time. Mary K. built lifetime of friendships at her time at Ryan’s Family Steakhouse and Guidry’s Oyster Reef. She will forever be “Our Girl”.

Pallbearers for the service were Kamron Michael Short and Kristian Roderick Guillory.

The family requests that visitation be held Saturday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 am at Walters Funeral Home.
