A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Michael Wayne Acosta, 57, who passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at his residence. Father Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will officiate the ceremony and conduct graveside services. Lectors will be Gwen Doucet and Samantha Riley, and gift bearers will be Connie Mouton, Olivia Phipps, and Darlene Cormier. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will perform "Amazing Grace", "Here I Am, Lord", "On Eagle_s Wings", and "Ave Maria._ Interment will take place immediately following the funeral mass at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Acosta is survived by his wife of 38 years, Theresa Acosta of Lafayette, LA; two daughters, Lauren Acosta and Ericka Acosta, both of Lafayette, LA; one sister, Sandra Herrle of Avondale, LA; three brothers, Harvey Acosta, Jr. and his wife Susan of Gainesville, FL, Dennis Acosta of Nashville, TN, and Gary Acosta and his wife Debbie of Kenner, LA; two grandchildren, Olivia Phipps and Ethan Phipps; one son-in-law, Adam Phipps of Lafayette, LA; and one brother-in-law, Lewis Frabbiele of New Orleans, LA.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Crystal Phipps; and his parents, Louise and Harvey Acosta, Sr.
Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Council 1286) for many years, and is currently a Parishioner at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. He was also a Nurse at UMC Medical Clinic for 6 years.
In his free time, he was an avid deer hunter, and a loyal football fan for both the New Orleans Saints and the Tulane Green Wave. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Pallbearers for the service will be Kim Rounsville, Seth Rounsville, Carrol Matte, Robert Mouton, Terry Holloway, and Michael Benoit. Honorary Pallbearer is Ethan Phipps.
The family requests that visitation be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and again on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
