Norma Jean Melancon

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Norma Jean Melancon, 86, who passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021.   Father David Hebert, Pastor at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will officiate the ceremony.  Interment will be immediately following the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation hours will be observed on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m.  A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m.

A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Norma Jean was the daughter of the late Luke Forey and Evelyn Mouton Forey.  After graduating from Lafayette High School, Norma Jean married Gene Alvin Melancon, and they spent 66 years together.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Alvin Melancon.

She is survived by a half-sister, Michelle Clements.

Pallbearers will be Chad Clements, Wayne Mabery, Casey Picard, Jessie Picard, Rocky Picard, and Garrett Richard.  Honorary pallbearers are Burnel Moreau and Francis Mouton.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Burnel and Marie Moreau, and Francis and Madeleine Mouton;  the staff at River Oaks Manor;  and Hospice of Acadiana.
