Richard Steve Johnston, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Richard Steve Johnston, Sr., 78, who passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024. Donald Johnston will conduct the services. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation hours will be observed on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Johnston of Lafayette, who he cherished every moment with as the love of his life; five children, Richard Steve Johnston, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Dawsonville, GA, Patricia Johnston of New Albany, IN, Sharon Jackson and her husband Bryan of Broussard, LA, Vickie Stevens and her husband Seth of Erie, CO, and Donald Johnston and his wife Janet of Cincinnati, OH; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Miller Ray; his uncle, Robert Miller; and his Godmother, Elnora Hollier. 

Richard is a Veteran of the United States Army. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and gardening. 

Pallbearers are Roland Aubry, Bryan Jackson, Caleb Jackson, Clay Jackson, Joshua Johnston, and Jason Miller. Honorary pallbearer is Brandon Boudreaux.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. They would also like to acknowledge and thank Roland Aubry for the special friendship he had with Richard over the years.
