Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Philadelphia Christian Church for Sylvia Briscoe, 65, who passed away at Ochsner Medical Center on Friday, September 9, 2016. Omar Thibeaux, Pastor at Philadelphia Christian Church, will officiate the ceremony. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
Sylvia was survived by her husband Joseph Briscoe of Lafayette; three daughters, Melissa Prejean and her companion Alvin Noel of Maurice, Dekesha Grannum of Atlanta, GA, and Shamika Briscoe of Lafayette; three sons, Albert Sloane Prejean and his wife Shannon of Carencro, Kendall Briscoe and his companion Ladasha of Lafayette, and Brandon Briscoe and his wife Eugenie of Milton; two sisters, Dorothy Helaire of Lafayette, and Justine Lemelle of Lafayette; one brother, Joseph Carter Arceneaux of Lafayette; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lily Newcost and John Martin; one grandson, Tyreal Jamal Briscoe; one sister, Sheila Thorton; and one brother, Albert James “Sonny” Arceneaux.
The family requests that visitation hours be observed on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Walters Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and resume on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Philadelphia Christian Church from 8:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. A prayer service will be held on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, led by Pastor Johnny Ray Offord.
