Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Verlie H. Trahan, 94, who passed away February 8, 2022 at her residence. Deacon Cody Miller will officiate the service. Jodi Bollich will provide musical selections, and interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Carencro.
Survivors include her daughter, Saundra T. Frederick of Lafayette; two daughters-in-law, Charleen C. Trahan of Scott and Sheila B. Trahan of Lafayette; her sister, Doralynn Hebert Derenthal of Lafayette and sister-in-law, Una M. Trahan of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Branan Dodd Frederick, Kelly T. Guillory, Kristy T. Dupuis, Brigette D. Frederick, Adam Roy Trahan, Chuckie T. Wagnon, and Anna Davis Fontenot; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Louis Roy Trahan; her parents, Gladys Legere and Eraste Hebert; two sons, Curtis L. and Kelvin R. Trahan; three sisters, Girdy Hebert, Marcelline H. Trahan, and Patsy Hebert; two brothers, Jason Hebert and Horace Myers; her in-laws, Marie L. and Exalt Trahan; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Trahan and her husband Eldes Trahan; and three brothers-in-law, Lee Roy Trahan, Frank P. Trahan, Sr., and Lawrence Trahan.
Verlie was a native of Carencro and long time resident of Lafayette. She was a member of the Woodmen Life Lodge #238 for more than 50 years, and the Golden Age Club for more than 40 years, serving as president of these two civic clubs many times over the years, as well as other officer positions. She was elected as the queen of the annual Golden Age Ball in the late 1970s, and was an enthusiastic member of the Pelican State Golden Age and Senior Citizen Association.
Verlie was a talented seamstress, and provided many dance costumes and formal dresses for family members. She enjoyed stamp collecting, reading, genealogy, and crocheting as well. Her all time favorite piece she created was a 3' x 6' wall hanging of The Lord's Prayer. Her creativity, zest for life and positivity will be missed.
Serving as pallbearers for the service are Branan Dodd Frederick, Michael Dodd Frederick, William Chase Frederick, Wesley P. Guillory, Weston P. Guillory, Kyle J. Dupuis, and Brad Robichaux. Honorary pallbearer is Adam Roy Trahan.
The family requests that visitation be held Friday morning from 9:00 am until services.
