Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Mrs. Prestly Rogers, the former Viola M. Roy, 82, who passed away May 25, 2023. Father Brian Taylor, pastor of St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services.Valarie Andrus, musician and vocalist, will perform, "Notre Pere," Amazing Grace," "I Can Only Imagine," and "Ave Maria." Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Carencro.
A native of Lafayette, Viola was the daughter of Alta Roy and Llodia Guidry Roy. She was a resident of Lafayette her entire life.
Survivors include two sons, Avery (Mel) Rogers and Shannon (Linda) Rogers; one daughter-in-law, Denise Rogers; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of more than fifty years, Prestly Rogers; one son, Farrell Rogers; and two brothers, Lincoln and Murphy Roy.
Viola was a member of the Greenhouse and loved playing pokeno. She loved her Wednesdays with her "almost-sister" Dolores. Among her best friends were her books. She especially enjoyed her bourre games.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Rogers, Scott Rogers, Tommy Champagne, Michael Shaw, Bryan Roy, and Eddie Broussard. Honorary pallbearers include Jason Fremin, Russell Belazaire, Avery Rogers, and Seth Rogers.
The family requests that visitation be held Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of service.
